Tarar is insatiable hunger, mammoth appetite, a desire to swallow the most disparate musical materials. From classical music to fusion, from world music to improvisation, from progressive rock to avant-garde.
Composed of flute (Arsienti Di Re) and classical guitar (Michele Rampino), Tarar offers only original compositions, traveling through unpredictable paths, in the constant and voracious search for a personal freedom of expression. The name of the duo is inspired by the historical figure of Tararre, a man who lived in the 18th century and suffered from a disorder that would cause him to eat almost anything in his sight. Used to consume huge amounts of food, he would devour entire baskets of apples, stones, and living animals among many other things.
With the show "Average Meal", the viewer will witness a normal meal of Tarar, made up of several courses, some tasty and flavourful, others inedible and revolting. Appetizers, first and second courses, including disgusting and raw snake meat, will accompany Tarar to reach satiety, albeit temporary, and to an inevitable calm and deep sleep.

Michele Rampino, our new guestprogrammer from Laak
"I moved to The Netherlands in August 2022 to attend a Master’s of guitar at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. As soon as I arrived here, I started living in Laak with other two roommates and today I am still living in the same house. A few months after my move, I found out that Laak is the place in which a lot of students live, especially internationals and musicians who, like me, are studying at the Conservatory. It was always been a surprise to discover that a lot of people I was meeting at school were also my neighbors or would live in different parts of Laak. This gave me the opportunity to slowly build a network of friends and people right where I am living, spending time and enjoying activities with them without necessarily going to other parts of the city.
Now that I finished my studies, I am focusing on my career as a musician and maker, looking to reach as many people as possible with my art. That is why performing in Laaktheater is a great opportunity for me since it will help me to begin sharing my artistic vision in the Netherlands, starting with my local community and friends, while allowing me to invite an audience from the rest of the city and region.
The duo Tarar is one of the main projects I am currently working on, and it is an “unconventional” flute and guitar duo that explores a personal music that does not want to be bound to any style or genre. The show Average Meal showcases the immense possibilities of dialogue between flute and classical guitar, exploring the wide variety of sounds these two instruments can offer, from the harsher colors to the most delicate timbres. The hall of Laaktheater is very suitable for a concert like this since its perfect size allows the audience to capture all the different sounds we are producing. Furthermore, it welcomes enough people while keeping an intimate atmosphere that encourages the contact between audience and performers. In fact, during the concerts of Tarar, we like to interact with the public, guiding them through the performance and involving them in our improvisations, which also are important aspects of our show."
